About Gujarat Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha)

Gujarat, the westernmost state of India, has a unicameral legislature. This means that it has a legislative assembly only, also known as the Vidhan Sabha. The Gujarat state legislative assembly comprises 182 members. These members occupy Gujarat assembly seats from their respective constituencies. They convene at the state capital Gandhinagar. Except one nominated member, all other members are directly elected from single-member constituencies. Out of these, 13 constituencies are reserved for scheduled castes and 26 for scheduled tribes. The assembly has a term of five years unless dissolved sooner. In the last Gujarat state assembly elections held in December 2017, the BJP emerged victorious and the Congress came second with 77 seats. The current CM of the state is Vijay Rupani.
