About Election Commission of Haryana
Haryana, earlier a part of the state of Punjab, came into existence in 1966 after the recommendations of the Sardar Hukam Singh Parliamentary Committee. The Shah Commission, led by Justice J. C. Shah, was assigned the responsibility to mark the boundaries of Haryana and Punjab. The division was made on the basis of languages: Hindi and Punjabi.
The city Chandigarh, part of the Ambala district in Haryana, due to equal population of Punjabi and Hindi-speaking people, was made the capital city of both the states. It is a Union Territory of India.
