About Deesa Assembly (Vidha Sabha) Constituency– Bye Elections 2014

By-election in Deesa assembly constituency will take place on September 13, 2014 and votes will be counted on September 16. By-election in Deesa was necessitated because the sitting MLA Liladharbhai Khodaji Vaghela got elected in Lok Sabha and the seat became vacant. While Lebbji Thakor is the BJP candidate, Govabhai Desai is the Congress candidate from Deesa assembly constituency of Banaskantha district of Gujarat. BJP seems to be ahead in the race as 18 out of 27 member municipality is under their control. Deesa seat was won by BJP during 2007 and 2012 assembly elections. Liladharbhai K. Vaghela of BJP defeated his closest rival Rajendra Dhudabhai Joshi of Congress by 17,706 votes during 2012 assembly election.

Total electorate in Deesa assembly constituency is 2,30,537, among which 1,20,512 are male and 1,10,025 are female. Average literacy rate in Deesa is 65 per cent, higher than national average. Caste politics play important role here. There are considerable Maldhari and Thakore votes in Deesa assembly. More than 13 per cent of the population in Deesa belong to SC and ST communities. Religion-wise, people from Hindu, Muslim, Parsi, and Christian communities live here. History of communal tension is there in this assembly segment.
