About Hazratbal Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Hazratbal is a city in Srinagar district. The famous Hazratbal shrine is located here. The assembly constituency of Hazratbal is a part of Srinagar parliamentary constituency. The seat has been occupied by JKNC since 1977. The by-elections were held in 2009 because Dr Abdullah, who had won the two assembly seats of Sonawar and Hazratbal in 2008 assembly elections and later won the LS elections left the Hazratbal seat. In the 2009 bypolls JKNC managed to retain its stronghold. S. M. Kamal won the elections by defeating Asiea of PDP. Kamal received 8555 votes as against Asiea's 7003 votes.
