About Banihal Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Banihal is a small town in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir. The word Banihal means blizzard. As of 2001 India census, it had a population of 2,729. The assembly constituency of Banihal is a part of Udhampur parliamentary constituency. In the past two assembly elections of 1996 and 2002, a independent candidate won the seat. But in the 2008 assembly elections, Vikar Rasool Wani of INC came out victorious. He defeated Showkat Javeed Daing, an independent candidate. Wani secured 8287 votes as against Daing's 5254 votes.
