Samastipur is a district, a Lok Sabha (parliamentary), and a legislative assembly constituency in the state of Bihar. The Samastipur assembly segment has a total of 2,46,709 eligible voters, out of which 1,33,230 are male and 1,13,476 are female.

In the previous Bihar Election, Akhtarul Islam Shaheen of RJD was elected as an MLA in Samastipur. He secured the first rank by beating BJP�s Renu Kumari who fell short of 31,080 votes. The margin between the two was a massive 20%. Akhtarul Islam Shaheen is a second time MLA from Samastipur. He had won the 2010 election as well.
