  • Oil and Gas Minister Dharmender Pradhan has said that decision on gas pricing will be done only after consulting all the stakeholders. He also said that the government will consider the benefits for the country while taking such a decision.
  • According to media sources, PM Narendra Modi may address about 20,000 NRIs at Madison Square Garden in New York in September. If the proposal is accepted, it will be by far the largest gathering of NRIs. Earlier Indian PMs have been subjected to community receptions in ball rooms of five star hotels. Modi enjoys a large fan following including many businessmen and Gujaratis from India in US.
  • Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi, on complaints of poor upkeep of newly-renovated Chennai airport, warned of actions against the concerned officials shirking from their responsibilities. He also gave them two weeks time to refurbish the airport. It all happened after a surprise inspection of the airport conducted by senior ministry officials over a week ago. The inspection revealed various shortcomings in the upkeep of the airport, including dirty toilets, damaged flooring and a dirty food court, among others. The minister has also decided to review the whole situation by paying a visit to the airport within a month.
  • PM Narendra Modi has asked the ministries to review criminal cases against MPs within a year. He had earlier, during the general election campaign, promised to take stern action against graft. As per the research by the Association for Democratic Reforms, 186 members (34%) of the Lok Sabha are facing criminal charges at present.
  • PM Narendra Modi will visit Nepal on August 3-4 on a two-day trip at the invitation of Nepal PM Sushil Koirala. His visit will be the first by an Indian PM in last 18 years. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will head to Nepal to strengthen the bilateral ties between both the countries along with paving the way for PM’s visit.
  • UPSC has started issuing the admit cards for the prelims exams even as the demonstration by civil services aspirants demanding the scrapping of newly introduced scheme of Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) in the examination pattern continues. It is alleged that the announced scheme is obstructing Hindi medium students from scoring well in exams.
