  • The UPA government wants a SAARC bank on the lines of BRICS bank. The aim is to take forward its South Asia initiative. At the regional grouping's ministerial council in Bhutan that starts from Thursday, India will propose a SAARC Development Bank. A government official said, “Commerce department has come out strongly in support of the South Asia Development Bank as it will go a long way in facilitating regional integration through financing of infrastructure for trade”.
  • Government informed Lok Sabha that people exposing corruption can get security. In this regard, it has authorised Chief Vigilance Officers of ministries or departments of the Central government to receive any written complaint of allegation of corruption of office in reference to any employee working under them. Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh said, “The Commission, after receipt of such reference from the designated authority, takes up the matter with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the nodal agency, to undertake the responsibility of providing security cover to the genuine whistleblowers”.
  • Senior BJP leader LK Advani disapproved of the alleged action of Shiv Sena MPs who forced a fasting Muslim to eat at Maharashtra Sadan. It is reported that on not being served Maharashtrian food, Shiv SEna MPs forced a Muslim caterer to eat a chapatti during Ramzan. The incident was debated in both the Houses of Parliament.
  • PM Narendra Modi paid tribute to freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his 158th birth anniversary at Parliament’s Central Hall. He tweeted, “On Bal Gangadhar Tilak's birth anniversary, we salute the great freedom fighter, who ignited the spark of patriotism with a call for 'Swaraj’”.
  • A high-level delegation of Indian CEOs is going to US this week. The object is to revive India-US economic relationship by conveying the sense of optimism prevailing amongst Indian industry. The visit is organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and the delegation is led by Ajay Shriram, Chairman and MD of DCM Shriram.
  • The Enforcement Directorate today attached assets worth Rs. 186 crore in biggest money laundering initiative. The attachment of an accused firm in Hyderabad is done under coal blocks allocation scam. The firm was earlier chargesheeted by CBI for allegedly misrepresenting and making false claims in order to emboss its application to get coal blocks between 2006-2009.
