  • Modi congratulated Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel for the football World Cup win. He phoned Merkel from his hotel during a short halt in Frankfurt while returning from Brazil. He also invited her to visit India for India-Germany Consultations (IGC) next year.
  • US laud PM’s steps to improve ties with SAARC countries. Top US officials to experts and law makers said that he has shown eagerness in strengthening India’s relations with its neighbouring countries.
  • Modi is likely to induct INS Kolkata in the last week of August. The 6,800 tonne warship is country’s largest indigenously-built warship and is constructed by the Mazagon Dockyards Limited. The warship will portray a huge leap in shipbuilding technology in India.
  • BJP asks Maharashtra Governor to display PM’s poster in important public places. On being asked by Shaina NC, BJP leader, to put up Narendra Modi’s posters in all prominent places as per the norms, Governor K. Sankaranarayanan agreed on the condition that the PM’s photograph should come from the PM’s office in order to maintain uniformity at all such places.
  • States seek easier land acquisition laws in order to do away with obtaining landowner’s consent and to cut through red tape. The move is aimed with the view to kick-start infrastructure projects that include high-speed rail network propagated by PM Narendra Modi.
  • During the first bilateral meeting, PM Narendra Modi meets Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and gave fillip to bilateral ties. Both the countries decided to expand investment and trade flows, besides propagating collaboration in the fields of defence, renewable energy and cyber security.
