Which state goes to assembly elections 2018 next?



  • Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the government wants to ensure a smartphone for every Indian by 2019. The digital India project that aims to offer a one-stop shop for government services would use the mobile phone as the backbone of its delivery mechanism. The initiative, pegged at Rs. 1.13 lakh crore, seeks to transform India into a connected economy. It also aims to attract investment in electronics manufacturing, besides creating jobs and supporting trade. Prasad said, “We want to ensure that all the services can be provided through a mobile handset, especially, health, education, various government services and retail. We want it (handset) to be used as a tool for empowerment. We will need to incentivise its usage in order to promote the social and the economic objectives of the government”.
  • Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah today met villagers from near Pakistan border. This happened after the firing by the Pakistan military. He said Indian troops would give “a befitting reply”. Shah visited a school in R. S. Pura area where villagers from the border areas have taken shelter as a result of firing. He told them that the Indian military was fully equipped to give "a befitting reply" to the Pakistan troops.
  • Kerala Governor Sheila Dixit today met President Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister Rajnath Singh amid rumors that she may resign if shunted out of the southern state. Her meeting came a day after Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan quit in protest of his transfer to Mizoram. According to sources, Dixit, who was assigned the post only five months back, is under pressure to resign. In her reply to such question she said, "You will know, when I take any such decision”.
  • The alliance of RJD-Congress-JD(U) today stunned Bharatiya Janata Party by winning six of the 10 assembly seats in Bihar. The RJD won three seats, JD(U) two while Congress managed to bag the seat of Bhagalpur. People celebrated the victory outside the offices of JD(U) and RJD. RJD chief Lalu Prasad tweeted, “I thank the people of Bihar for the victory of the RJD-JD-U combine and Congress. It seems people have corrected the wrong of the Lok Sabha polls”.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was the nucleus of their philosophy of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'. The Yojana is aimed to provide every household with a bank account and insurance cover. He tweeted, “Jan Dhan Yojana is at the core of our philosophy of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' and we will work towards its success.”
