Which state goes to assembly elections 2018 next?



  • India has begun deploying squadrons of surface-to-air Akash missiles in the Northeast. This is done in the wake of growing apprehensions about China’s threat. As per reports, six squadrons are being deployed to tackle Chinese jets and drones. The government had already deployed Sukhoi-30MKI fighters at Tezpur and Chabua.
  • Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah today met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The two is reported to have discussed the present political situation and relations between the two parties. TDP and BJP shares power in Andhra Pradesh. Shah was on his first visit to Telangana after becoming the BJP chief. He said he is hopeful about Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
  • The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Centre and the Election Commission on a petition challenging a Delhi High Court direction to inspect the Congress party's foreign funding. The SC bench said that the provision on foreign funding requires an explanation. The probe into the party’s funding was over an allegation that it has received funds from a company based outside India.
  • PM Narendra Modi asked the IITs to take up the challenge of developing products in the field of defence, health and other sectors. This is done in the wake of India’s dependence on imports in these sectors. He also urged them to come up with user-friendly innovations in Indian Railways, besides achieving the vision for “housing for all”.
  • The Cabinet Secretary has asked all secretaries to improve the ambience of offices, besides ensuring punctuality of officials especially in departments with major public interaction. This is aimed to improve the work culture in offices. The government has also asked all the departments to emphasise on “cleanliness of work areas and improvement in the over-all ambience of office buildings as also punctuality on the part of the officials should be reviewed on sustained basis so that there is a visible improvement and there are no reports of slippages in this regard”.
  • The NDA government is set to host all the 54 African Union countries at the India-Africa Forum Summit scheduled for December 4 in Gurgaon. However, the final number of participating countries would depend on the political situation existing in the region.
