Which state goes to assembly elections 2018 next?



● Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants the labs with researchers below the age of 35, to work for the defence research. Modi said so, while addressing the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) during a function in New Delhi. He urged the DRDO to complete its projects at the earliest. He also appealed to the research scientists to come up with new and innovative ideas which can make a soldier’s life comfortable. He also added that the DRDO should decide how to be proactive and set the agenda for the world.

● PM Modi has sought a report from the home ministry over the violence in the Assam-Nagaland border which resulted in the killings of about 15 people. The government is planning and preparing to send extra forces in the regions if the state asks for help. Recently, the protesters in Assam clashed with the police in the Golaghat region.

● The Modi government will take measures to empower Dalit youths. The PM has asked the ministries of industry, finance and micro, small & medium enterprises to help the Dalit youths to come out of their social and economic backwardness and turn into entrepreneurs. Modi has told few Dalit leaders to frame a policy for the Dalit-run MSMEs which are worth three-million dollars. 

● Home Minister Rajnath Singh will meet the MPs of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) tomorrow. The MPs are likely to discuss the issue of granting special powers to the Governor of Telangana to look after the matters of law and order of Hyderabad. Telangana Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan is also likely to meet the Home Minister during his three-day Delhi visit to discuss latest developments in his state. Earlier, the meeting between Singh and TRS MPs was scheduled for 18 August which was postponed to 21 August.

● PM Modi has condoled the death of yoga guru B.K.S. Iyenger. In a tweet, Modi has written that he is completely saddened by the news of the sudden death of the yogacharya. He offered condolences to his followers all over the country. He also tweeted that Iyenger will be remembered as a scholar and a guru who brought yoga in the lives of many people across the country.

● Chairman and CEO of Pepsi-Co, Indra Nooyi is likely to meet PM Modi next week. It is expected that the meeting will focus on setting up more manufacturing units in the country. Modi had urged the global organizations, during his Independence Day speech, to invest and set up their manufacturing units in India. The spokesperson from PepsiCo has confirmed that Nooyi will be visiting India soon and will meet Modi and other key officials.     

● Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani felicitated the CBSE achievers in several fields such as sports, academics and science. The students were divided into three different groups and were given awards. The students were also given a personally signed message from PM Modi.
