Which state goes to assembly elections 2018 next?



  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the country on the occasion of Janamashtami that marks the birth of Lord Krishna. The PM tweeted “Greetings on Janmashtami! May Lord Krishna bless our lives with peace, prosperity and happiness”.
  • The Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries Pon Radhakrishnan has said that the Centre has been taking all the possible efforts to find a permanent solution for the problems faced by the fishermen in Tamil Nadu. He also said that the Modi government will focus on the welfare and the problems of the fishermen and in order to solve those issues, talks have already been held with the fishermen associations in the state.
  • The Central government has asked the Public Sector Banks to give preference to the transfer requests of the female employees who are separated from their families. It has also asked the banks to reintroduce the ‘compassionate employees’ scheme and employee home loan scheme. In a circular issued to the banks, the government department has mentioned that the female employees face hardships and develop a feeling of insecurity if they live away from their husband or parents. It also added that the female employees should be placed at a branch which is nearby the place where their husband or parents reside.
  • Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsein has re-affirmed that he is committed to work with the Indian leaders. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his National Rally speech, he said that there are many new leaders in India and the way a country fares can affect the entire region. Lee is likely to meet Modi at the earliest opportunity. Lee has welcomed the strategic partnership with Asean offered by India and encouraged it for its active role in South East Asia.
  • Union Minister Rajnath Singh said that the Centre will extend full support and cooperation to Uttar Pradesh to tackle floods after a warning for ‘high flood situation’ was issued in the state. He also added that not only in UP, but the cooperation will be extended to every region wherever problem of flood is being faced or suspected. He also added that National Disaster Response Force has been issued the directives to send their respective teams.
  • The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has asked the Department of Fertilizers (DoF) to draw plans to revive two or more urea plants. The government is aiming to reduce the urea imports and therefore has decided the ways and means to improve feasibility of the production of urea and to establish the Jagdishpur-Haldia gas pipeline which can be useful for several industries including fertilizers.
  • Chattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has directed his collectors to start the implementation of the key provisions of the PM Modi’s Independence-Day speech. He asked them to develop ten ‘Adarsh Villages’ in every block. As desired and directed by the PM, Raman Singh has asked the officials to give priority to hygiene, clean drinking water and health.
