  • Home Minister Rajnath Singh today handed over the party’s command to Amit Shah in New Delhi. He said that Amit Shah was best suited for the post of President of BJP. Praising Shah, he added that it was because of him only that the party won 71 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state of Uttar Pradesh during the general elections. “We can say that the only cadre and ideology based party left is the BJP. The Congress has neither ideology nor cadre,” he added, while addressing the BJP national council meet at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the capital.
  • Gujarat police gave a clean chit to PM Narendra Modi in an alleged model code of conduct violation case filed during the Lok Sabha elections. The police filed a closure report in a metropolitan court here. A senior officer of the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) said, “We have filed a closure summary report before the metropolitan court number 11 here today”. The closure summary maintained that no case was made out against him. An FIR was registered against him for allegedly violating provisions of the Representation of People Act on April 30 this year.
  • RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan has set the target of bringing down the consumer inflation. To achieve this, he is even ready to raise the rates. With this he risks friction with the Modi government. His skills will be on test when he meets Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday in RBI board meeting in Delhi. The meeting comes after he established in clear terms that the RBI would get consumer inflation down to 6 percent one year later and 8 per cent by January 2015. An official said, “If we don't get support from the government, then we have to hit it harder. If inflation doesn't come down as projected and supply-side measures are not taken, interest rates may need to go up to reach the 6 per cent goal”.
  • After assuming additional charge of Governor of Rajasthan, UP Governor Ram Naik said with the change in government, political appointees should resign voluntarily. He was replying to a question on whether Governors should resign. He said, “"Traditions have an important place in political sphere which should be respected. Those appointed politically by governments, not only Governors, but others like Deputy Chairman and members of Planning Commission, tender their resignations voluntarily with the change of government and it is right to do so”.
  • Addressing the BJP national council after being ratified as the party President on Saturday, Amit Shah said that the party is now moving ahead as a party for the poor. He said that during general elections, the poor felt that the “BJP is their party (and) a tea seller (Narendra Modi) is going to be the Prime Minister”. “Many of us have seen pictures of a leader no less than Atal ji serving food to the delegates at party conventions. For decades, it was Advani ji who used undertake the thankless job of documentation of party papers. From Kushbhau Thakare to Nitin Gadkari, all have risen to the top from the grassroots,” he added.
  • Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said on Saturday that policy paralysis has been ended by the BJP-led NDA government in the past 75 days. While addressing at the BJP national council meet, he said during Congress rule, there was "policy paralysis...tax terrorism”. "In the past 75 days, we have restored the credibility of the economy...broke policy paralysis and tax terrorism," he added.
