Which state goes to assembly elections 2018 next?



  • PM Narendra Modi has asked BJP MPs to tell people about ‘bold steps’ taken by his government in its first 50 days in office. PM is holding informal meetings with his MPs asking them to convey to people that the government is working to make the benefits of its bold policies available to even the last person. The Prime Minister’s Office has also asked various ministries to draft a list of projects that would get started to mark his 100 successful days in office.
  • The issue of non-availability of post-matric government scholarship to Other Backward Castes and Extremely Backward Castes, as raised by Leader of the Opposition Nand Kishore Yadav during the Zero Hour led to disruption of Assembly. Even an assurance by Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi to meet PM to find a solution to the problem could not cool down the matter. In his reply Manjhi said, "We had envisaged the scholarship of Rs. 1 to 1.5 lakh for post-matric students. It became very popular and we received applications from 5 lakh students. Our calculations suggested we needed Rs. 1,300 crore to provide scholarships to the vast number of applicants, but money was an issue”.
  • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that living up to people’s expectations is a big challenge for the government as those “who give a mandate with so many aspirations doesn’t have much patience". In a BJP’s women cell meeting, she said, “We have to deliver and we have to deliver quickly”. She added, “I have always said the more votes you get, the bigger is the responsibility. Our struggle for 10 years has reached a logical conclusion and now the big challenge is to live up to people's huge expectations from us”.
  • PM Narendra Modi will be on a two-day trip to Nepal. He will address Nepal’s Parliament on August 4. His address will come at a time when the country is about to draft its new constitution that it has been trying to do from last seven years. Modi will also offer prayers at the famed Pashupatinath temple. Secretary General of the Pashupati Area Development, Govinda Tondon, said, “We have launched a special cleaning campaign around the temple premises". A special prayer is scheduled to be performed during PM’s visit to the temple.
  • As per sources, Justice Markandey Katju is not likely to get his present term as Press Council of India Chairman extended for another term, although he had recently met Information and Broadcasting Minister and articulated his desire to extend his term further. He is scheduled to retire within three months.
  • President Pranab Mukherjee completes two years in office. To commemorate this, a series of events, including opening of a museum, were organised at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The museum is the Indian version of Madame Tussauds museum and was inaugurated by the President in the presence of PM Narendra Modi. The President said, “I am sure this museum will enable the people of our nation to obtain an inside view of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, its art, architecture and vibrant community as well as educate them on the lives of various Presidents".
