Here are the highlights for Day 47 of Modi government

  • The US seems to be leaving no stone unturned to strengthen relationship with India. After Obama’s formal invitation letter to Modi to visit US, now it’s the turn of American lawmakers. They are campaigning to get Modi address the US Congress’ joint session.
  • Modi is all set to attend BRICS summit in Brazil. The PM will leave tomorrow for Brazil.
  • The MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) chief Raj Thackeray criticized Modi over the use of social media. Thackeray said that social media might have worked during the campaign but it is not the solution every time. The student’s wing of Modi’s party should work with the people instead of depending on social media.
  • Here is another letter from Tamil Nadu, CM Jayalalithaa to Narendra Modi regarding allocation of kerosene to her state. She urged Modi to allocate over 65,000kl of kerosene which is the monthly usage in the state.
  • In a drive to remove governors appointed by the UPA government, the Modi government forced Virendra Kataria, Lt Governor of Puducherry to submit his resignation.
  • Jehangir Pocha, a senior journalist of ITV group today passed away. Mourning his death, Modi said “Pocha will be remembered as a leading voice on TV, print and social media”.
  • Modi has come up with a unique idea to send his maiden speech on Independence Day to all government employees in each and every corner of the country. He has asked to create a database which will contain the phone numbers and email ids of all government employees. The speech will be sent to them directly by message.
  • To deal with the scarcity of electricity in the villages ruled by the BJP, government is planning to keep aside a sum of Rs 50,000 crore.
  • A bad news for the bureaucrats – now it is not easier for them to travel abroad. They would have to give a strong reason to the government for their travel. The decision is taken to cut down on the expenditure.
