Here are the highlights for Day 16 of Modi government

  • Narendra Modi in his inaugural speech in the Lok Sabha today said that his government will "leave no stone unturned to fulfil" the promises outlined by President Pranab Mukherjee in his address.
  • Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif wrote to Modi expressing his satisfaction over the meeting with Indian PM and said that he is looking forward to work with him in "harmony on all unsettled matters".
  • U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj are likely to meet in the coming few months. The meeting will be slated before Modi's visit to Washington in September.
  • AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the power crisis in Delhi.
  • The Modi government has decided to embrace technology in governance. The Prime minister has asked all the officials of different ministries to clear files electronically.
  • Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh today asked the government to get back Indian land "under occupancy of China and Pakistan". Singh also asked PM to let know parliament about the discussions with his Pakistani counterpart.
  • Defence Minister Arun Jaitley today said that the appointment of Lt. Gen. Dalbir Singh Suhag as the next army chief is confirmed.
  • Ending debates over the hold in appointment of the attorney general, the Modi government has cleared senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi's name for the top law officer's post.
  • Narendra Modi dissolved four cabinet committees namely, the cabinet committee on management of natural calamities, cabinet committee on prices, cabinet committee on World Trade Organisation (WTO) matters and cabinet committee on Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
