India General (Lok Sabha) Election 2019 Results Live Updates

With over 900 million voters eligible to vote for 543 constituencies, the 17th Lok Sabha Elections, that is being held in 7 phases has finally reached its 7th and final phase. The 7th phase of elections will take place on May 19th, 2019 when 8 states including Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Chandigarh will undergo polling.

In the first phase of the general election, 69.50% of the 142 million eligible voters cast their vote to elect their representatives for 91 Lok Sabha seats. The turnout was 68.77% in the same constituencies in the 2014 general elections.

In the second of the seven voting phases 156 million voters were eligible to vote to elect their representatives for 95 Lok Sabha seats. The turnout for the second phase was 69.44% in 2019, compared to 69.62% for the same seats in 2014.

In the third phase of the general election, 189 million voters were eligible to elect 116 Lok Sabha representatives. According to the Election Commission of India, the turnout for this phase was 68.40%, compared to 67.15% for the same seats in 2014.

In the fourth of seven phases, 65.51% of the 128 million eligible voters cast their vote to elect 72 representatives to the Indian parliament while the turnout for the same seats in the 2014 election was 63.05%.

The fifth phase was open to 87.5 million eligible voters, who could cast their vote in over 96,000 polling booths. In the sixth of seven phases, 63.5% of the 101 million eligible voters cast their vote in about 113,000 polling stations.

In the sixth phase with over 100 million voters across 7 states who were eligible to vote for 59 seats of Lok Sabha, 63.49% voter turnout was recorded.

The study asserts, a divergence between the growth and job rates, accounting for 1% increase in employment with respect to 10% increase in the GDP. Another hinderance to the economy is the crevice between the productivity and wages in the manufacturing sector, implying that the labour productivity has hiked but the worker's wages have grown by mere 1.5 times. The judgement on the constitutionality of Section 57 of the Aadhar Act, by a constitution bench led by Chief Justice Of India Dipak Misra, will be deliveredtoday. The section 57, permits the State as well as any 'body corporate or person' or 'a private entity' to demand Aadhar for identification purposes. The Court, further catechised the linking of the statute to the Consolidated Fund of India for its facilitation to private companies and raised eyebrows at the passing of the act as a money bill. Defending the CJI's observation, Attorney-General K.K. Venugopal, reasoned the Act to be a legislative “tool” to render “good governance, efficient, transparent and targeted delivery of subsidies, benefits and services”. The Congress, questioning the Modi government's silence over the Rafale deal, claimed it to be the reason of the delay in the initiation of the Lokpal bill during his tenure. The Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal, post making a public urge to the former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha and BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha, tried convincing the duo to contest on AAP's ticket from Delhi. Mr. Yashwant Sinha, quit BJP in April, while the actor-turned-politician, Mr. Shatrughan Sinha, is the incumbent MP from Patna Sahib. Disqualifying the convicted lawmakers, unlike the accused ones, the Supreme Court, under the Representation of the People Act, will pronounce its judgment on barring criminal politicians. Any politician facing charges of heinous crimes like murder, rape, and kidnapping will be abstained from contesting elections and transforming into parliamentarians and legislators. The CJI Dipak Mishra, adjured the urgency to keep criminals at bay and voiced the Court's grief over the disability of the society to prevent criminalization at the point of entry. While reminding the parliament of its obligation towards Article 102(1)(e), the Court, made a conscious demand to work in accordance with the guidelines of the constitution. The Attorney General K.K. Ruling out rumours of an alliance with the BJP, the DMK President M.K. Stalin, accused the media for concocting stories to serve their vested interests. He further stated that the attempts to bring together the two parties will not succeed either before or after the 2019 election. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Varanasi which is being seen as an early party campaigning for the Lok Sabha 2019 polls. Varanasi is also the home constituency of Modi. He addressed a Banaras Hindu University's gathering where he also inaugurated a number of schemes and projects worth Rs 550 crores. The ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) has performed badly in the JNUSU (Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union) elections. ABVP earlier tried to ruin the counting procedure through hooliganism and violence. Many have also reported that as soon as the leads of the elections results started emerging, ABVP brought in vehicles carrying goons armed with rods and sticks. ABVP has lost all the seats of the central panel to a coalition of four left parties, Left Unity. Even the margins were large. Former finance minister P Chidambaram has taken a dig at BJP after its party chief Amit Shah claimed that the central government would try to bring a decline in the prices of petrol. Shah's comment came after the Union government stated that fuel prices won't be cut down. Chidambaram stated that the saffron party must have had found a way of obtaining the oil free for that to happen. Congress president Rahul Gandhi has come out with a proof that could show that Vijay Mallya colluded with finance minister Arun Jaitley. Rahul's proof is actually a statement given by Congress Rajya Sabha MP and his confidant, Panna Lal Punia. Gwalior, which is already witnessing caste tension, has seen a new turn on the issue. A Congress corporator on the grounds of life threats from the locals has lodged an FIR against more than 100 people. The police, in turn, has booked all those people under the SC/ST act (Provisions of Atrocities Act). In his complaint, Chaturbhuj Dhanolia has stated that a Netrapal Singh Bhaduaria along with other 100-125 people came to attack his house. After considering the recommendations from Telangana CM K Chandrasekhara Rao, the state governor ESL Narasimhan dissolved the Assembly yesterday. The decision has set the path for early Assembly polls in the state. However, the CM Rao has been asked to continue his duties until the new government is in place. Right after the announcement, Rao addressed the media and pointed out the achievements of the government and praised the cabinet for its tireless working. He added that the state government is also a recipient of international acclaim. Congress announced on Thursday that a nationwide protest will be organised on September 10 in the light of increasing prices of fuel. The party leaders have even urged the civil society groups and opposition parties to join in the shutdown. The announcement came at a press conference by the likes of Congress leaders such as Ashok Gehlot, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Mallikarjun Kharge, Motilal Vora, and Ahmed Patel. On Wednesday there was a silent rally in Chennai for paying the homage to M Karunanidhi, the late father of Alagiri. More than 8,00 people assembled at Triplicane police station and raised the slogans of 'long live Alagiri' and 'Saviour of the party.' Ravi, the DMK party functionary, went to Chennai airport to receive Alagiri. However, later he was sacked from the party by the DMK leaders considering his move as an act of rebellion. Five Congressmen have offered to sell their shops and houses in order to collect money for buying Congress president Rahul Gandhi a modern plane.
