Meghalaya Assembly Election results have always seen Congress as a major political force, always gaining a large chunk of seats. In 2013 Assembly polls, the party won 29 seats out of total 60 constituencies. Independent candidates won on a total of 13 seats, followed closely by UDP(United Democratic Party) with 8 seats. The Meghalaya election result in 2008 too echoed similar results with Congress coming at the top, winning 25 seats. Nationalist Congress party came next, gaining 14 seats in the House. The Congress has been uninterruptedly ruling the state for over 7 years. However, Meghalaya assembly election result has consistently proved to be a disappointment for the saffron party. The party contested for 23 seats in 2008 but could win only one and in 2013, it could not even manage to gain a single seat.
The term of current Meghalaya Legislative Assembly expires on March 6, 2018. The Election for the fresh assembly was held on Feb 27. The Meghalaya Assembly Election Result 2018 were declared on March 3 for 59 seats.
The INC won 21 seats while NPP won 19 seats. BJP managed 2 seats with other parties winning only 1-2 seats. The BJP alliance would form the government in the state with Conrad Sangma (NPP leader) as the CM of the state.
