Tripura Assembly election results have consistently stated Communist Party of India(Marxist) as a dominant force in the state. The party has been ruling there since 1993. It has a history of gaining more than half of the seats in the polls. In 2013, Tripura election result, the party grabbed 49 out of 60 seats, leaving no room for other parties to even form a coalition and form a government. The INC won only 10 seats. In 2008 elections too, the party gained 46 seats, Congress maintained 10 seats while other parties gained just 1 or 2 seats. The major political force of the country at the moment, BJP has never gained a single seat in the last 10 years and has never formed the government in the state until 2018 polls.

The current Tripura Legislative Assembly dissolved on March 14, 2018. Assembly Election was held on Feb 18, 2018. The results were declared on March 3 for 59 seats. BJP won 35 seats, CPM won 16 and IPFT won 8. The BJP would clearly form the government in the state.
