About Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha)
Himachal Pradesh, a northern state of India, has a unicameral legislature. This means that it has a legislative assembly only, also known as the Vidhan Sabha. The Himachal Pradesh state legislative assembly comprises 68 members. These members occupy Himachal Pradesh assembly seats from their respective constituencies. It convenes at the state capital Shimla. Except one nominated member, all other members are directly elected from single-member constituencies. Out of these, 17 constituencies are reserved for scheduled castes and 3 for scheduled tribes. The assembly has a term of five years unless dissolved sooner. The term of the current state legislative assembly of Himachal Pradesh expires in January, 2018. In the last HImachal Pradesh state assembly elections held in 2012, the Congress emerged victorious and the BJP was runner-up. The thirteenth Himachal Pradesh assembly elections 2017 will be held on November 9, 2017 and the counting of the counting date of the votes is December 18, 2017.
