Ongole Parliamentary Constituency Election Results 2019

In 2009 Election Results the UPA won around 261 out of 543 seats, and in the second position was NDA with 158 seats, while 23 seats were won by Left parties.

In 2014 Election Results the BJP won 282 seats out of 543 seats. This took the NDA tally to 336 seats out of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha. INC could only manage to win 44 seats and stayed in the second position while AIADMK party from Tamil Nadu came third with 37 seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.

In 2019, the BJP is set to return to power at the Centre after a sweeping win in the 2019 Lok Sabha election , armed with a bigger mandate than in the 2014 General Election. The party - led by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah duo has secured 303 seats in the 17th Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, the Congress, the main Opposition party, managed to increase its vote share from 2014 only by a handful of votes, with a final tally of 52 seats. There will be no Leader of Opposition in the upcoming Lower House for a second consecutive term.

Ongole Lok Sabha Election Results 2019

The Ongole Parliamentary constituency is one of the 42 Lok Sabha seats which represent the state of Andhra Pradesh in the Lower House of the Parliament. The total number of electorates in the Ongole Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 34) according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports are 1,375,558 of which 678,033 are males and 697,525 are females. A Congress stronghold, Ongole is located in the Prakasam district. The district of Prakasam, which was carved out of the districts of Nellore, Guntur and Kurnool in the year 1970, has as its administrative headquarters the city of Ongole.

The district has a population of 3,059,423, as per the 2011 Census records, and is spread over an area of 17,626 sq km. The district of Prakasam is part of the Red Corridor, as it witnesses frequent raids by the Naxalites and the Maoists, which in turn hinders economic growth and development. The economic backbone is formed by industries such as tobacco factories and granite mills, besides spinning mills and other small-scale industries which are scattered in this district. There are seven legislative assembly segments in this parliamentary constituency of Ongole, out of which Kondapi and Yerragondapalem are reserved for SC candidates.
