Patil Vivekanand Shankar of PWPI (Peasants and Workers Party of India) won the assembly
elections of 2009.
He defeated Mhatre Shyam Padaji of INC (Indian National Congress). Shankar bagged 82017
votes as against
Padaji's 61992 votes. Uran belongs to Raigad district of Maharashtra. Having a population of
160,303 as
per 2011 India census, the major occupation of the people is fishing. A great economic zone,
the place is
known for its salt pans.
