About Balapur Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency
Balapur is a city in Akola district of Maharashtra. As of 2011 India census, Balapur had a
population of
189,412. The assembly constituency of Balapur belongs to Akola parliamentary constituency.
The
constituency has always been occupied by the INC or the BJP. But the results of 2009
assembly elections
came as a shock. Baliram Bhagwan Siraskar, an independent candidate won the elections and is
the present
MLA. He defeated his nearest rival Khateeb Rajaya Begum Natiquoddin of INC. Siraskar secured
39581 votes
as against Natiquoddin's 37991 votes.
