About Shirdi Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

A town in the parliamentary constituency of the same name, the assembly constituency of Shirdi is located in the Ahmednagar district. The place is a home of famous guru Shirdi Sai Baba. The seat which was occupied by INC (Indian National Congress) from 1995 to 1999 was taken over by SHS (Shiv Sena) in the 1999 assembly elections. But in 2004 assembly elections, INC managed to regain its lost seat. Patil Vikhe Radhakrishna Eknath of INC won the 2009 assembly elections for the second consecutive time and is the present MLA. He defeated Dr. Pipada Rajendra Madanlal of SHS, with a huge margin. Eknath bagged 80301 votes as against Madanlal 's 66992 votes. The city had a population of 26,169 in 2011.
