Krishnaganj is constituency No. 88 of West Bengal legislative assembly. It is situated in Nadia district. It is part of Lok Sabha constituency No. 13 which is Ranaghat. This constituency is reserved for scheduled castes. According to the Election Commission of India, Krishnaganj constituency has a total of 2,10,505 registered voters, out of which 1,10,278 are male and 1,00,227 are female. In the 2011 assembly elections, Sushil Biswas of Trinamool Congress secured a major win for his party from this seat. Krishnaganj had been a CPI(M) bastion for a number of decades. Sushil Biswas defeated his nearest rival, Barun Biswas of CPI(M), by a margin of 20,934 votes. While the Trinamool mascot bagged 96,550 votes, Barun Biswas got 75,616. The voter turnout was an impressive 87.97%. A by-election was held in this seat following the demise of Sushil Biswas in October, 2014. TMC won by a convincing margin; Satyajit Biswas became the new MLA from this seat.
