Behala (Purba) is constituency No. 153 of West Bengal state legislative assembly. It is situated in District South 24 Parganas. Behala (Purba) is part of Kolkata Dakshin which is Lok Sabha constituency No. 23. It is an unreserved constituency. According to the Election Commission of India, Behala (Purba) has 2,43,394 registered voters, 1,22,471 male and 1,20,923 female voters. Sovan Chatterjee of Trinamool Congress won this seat in the 2011 assembly elections. Eight candidates, including one female candidate, contested from this seat. Chatterjee defeated his closest rival, Kumkum Chakraborty of CPI(M), by a margin of 48,173 votes. Chatterjee got 1,16,709 votes while his opponent got only 68,536. The voter turnout was an impressive 79.79%.
