The Samajwadi Party (SP) defeated the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) by 14,209 votes in the 2012 Assembly elections. Rajkumar (alias Raju Yadav), the winning Samajwadi Party candidate, got 54,990 votes. The nearest contender was Rama Shakya of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) who got 40,781 votes. The voter turnout was 57.60 %.
