Ampati assembly constituency is in the South West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya State. There are 28,673 voters in the constituency of which 26,092 voters voted in the last election making the voting to around 91%. The Demographic Bifurcation of the constituency is 74.59% Christians, 11.53% Hindus and 4.40% Muslims.
Dr Mukul Sangma candidate belonging to Indian National Congress won the seat in last election defeating Bakul Ch Hajong of Bharatiya Janata Party by 8,104 Votes.
