Byrathi Basavaraj is an Indian politician who will take over as Karnataka's Minister of Urban Development on August 4, 2021. He began in social service before entering politics and becoming a panchayat member and president. He was elected as a corporator for Hoodi ward in 2009 and ran for the Krishnarajapuram Vidhanasabha constituency (K R Puram) in 2013, becoming the party's first MLA. He was elected to Congress for the second time in 2018. Following his resignation in 2019, he ran in a by-election for the BJP and won by a large margin. Later, he served as Minister for Urban Development in the cabinet of B S Yediyurappa and as Minister for the Second Term in the cabinet of Basavaraj Bommai.
