About Gumla Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Located in the district by the same name, the assembly constituency of Gumla belongs to Lohardaga Lok Sabha constituency. The seat is represented by BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party). It was earlier occupied by JMM (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha). Kamlesh Oraon of BJP won the 2009 assembly elections. He defeated Bhushan Tirkey of JMM, the last time winner. Oraon secured 39555 votes as against Tirkey's 27468 votes. Having a population of 213,620, as per 2011 India census, the city is also the district headquarters. The constituency is reserved for the Scheduled Tribes. People of all the castes live here.
