About Chakradharpur Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Located in the West Singhbhum district, the assembly constituency of Chakradharpur belongs to Singhbhum Lok Sabha constituency. The seat which was occupied by JMM (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) in 2005 but was taken over by BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in 2009 assembly elections. Laxman Gilua of BJP won the 2009 assembly elections. He defeated Sukhram Oraon of JMM, the last time winner. Giluwa secured 26984 votes as against Oraon's 26694 votes. It had a population of 197,953, as per 2011 India census. The constituency is reserved for the Scheduled Tribes. The city is also the district headquarters.
