Delhi Assembly Election Results 2003



The 2003 elections to the Delhi Vidhan Sabha formed its 7th Assembly. After this election, Sheila Dikshit of the INC continued to be the Chief Minister of Delhi. 70 MLAs were elected, representing 70 Assembly constituencies. Sheila Dikshit won from the Gole Market constituency. A total of 7 women MLAs were elected.

National political parties, regional political parties, a large number of registered unrecognized political parties as well as independent members participated in this election. The total number of valid votes cast was 45,12,872. The INC got the majority of seats numbering 47, followed by the BJP who won 20 seats and others got 3 seats.

Dikshit during her 2nd term as CM, was committed to making Delhi a truly global city. She also attracted tourists by improving handicrafts and promoting rural craftsmen of Delhi on an international platform. She has been successful in her political agendas. It was because of her able administration that Delhi won the United Nations Public Service Award of 2005 for improving Public Services in the city.
