The 6th Assembly Elections of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha or the Legislative Assembly were held in 1998. During this time, that Congress member Sheila Dikshit began her tenure as the Chief Minister of National Capital Territory of Delhi. She continues to rule Delhi as the CM, presently holding her 3rd term in office.
The 1993 elections are significant as the Congress regained the majority of the seats of the Legislative Assembly. A total of 70 MLAs representing 70 Assembly constituencies were elected in the 1993 elections. Out of them, 9 were women MLAs and 13 MLAs were from the SC category.
Sheila Dikshit has brought immense growth and development in
Delhi, her primary focus of governance being Information Technology, infrastructure, transport and communication, health, education and empowerment of women. In 2008, the Journalist Association of India awarded Dikshit as the 'Best Chief Minister of India', for her significant contributions to the development of Delhi.
