Silchar is constituency No. 9 of Assam legislative assembly. It is situated in Cachar district and comes under the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency. It is an unreserved constituency. According to the Election Commission of India, this assembly seat has 1,95,527 registered voters. It comprises 1,01,757 male and 93,770 female registered voters.
The Congress won this seat in the 2011 Assembly elections by a margin of 15,851 votes. Sushmita Dev, the winning Congress candidate, got 60,978 votes. The nearest contender was Rajdeep Roy of BJP who got 45,127 votes. The voter turnout was 61.96 %.
