About Jalukbari Assembly Constituency

Jalukbari is constituency No. 51 of Assam legislative assembly. It is situated in Kamrup Metropolitan district. It comes under the Gauhati Lok Sabha constituency. It is an open constituency. According to the Election Commission of India, Jalukbari comprises 1,67,985 registered voters. It includes 85,214 male and 82,771 female registered voters.

Himanta Biswas Sarma won this seat for the third consecutive time when he clinched victory in the 2011 Assembly elections. Sarma has held the Jalukbari seat since 2001. He contested on Congress ticket and bagged 93,812 votes. He defeated his nearest contender by as many as 77,403 votes, that is, 59.48% of the total valid votes. BJP candidate Prodyut Kumar Bora, the nearest contender, got 16,409 votes. The voter turnout was 77.47 %. Interestingly, Sarma has since moved to the BJP and slated to fight the next elections on BJP ticket.
