About Siliguri Assembly Constituency

Siliguri is constituency No. 26 of West Bengal legislative assembly. It is situated in Darjeeling district. It is part of Lok Sabha constituency No. 4, Darjeeling. It is an unreserved constituency.

According to the Election Commission of India, the constituency of Siliguri has 1,84,303 registered voters. Out of this, 97,229 are male and 87,074 are female voters.

In the 2011 assembly elections, the Siliguri constituency saw a tough contest between the two main contenders, Trinamool Congress and CPI(M). Rudranath Bhattacharya of Trinamool Congress defeated his nearest contender, Ashok Narayan Bhattacharya of CPI(M), by a margin of 5,006 votes. While the TMC got 72,019 votes from this seat, the CPI(M) got 67,013. The voter turnout was 81.34%. It was an important win for the TMC because Siliguri had been with the CPI(M) since 1977.
