About Rohaniya Assembly Constituency

Rohaniya is constituency No. 387 of Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly. It is situated in Rae Bareli district and comes under the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency. It is an open constituency.

According to data with the Election Commission of India, Rohaniya has 3,16,973 registered voters. It comprises 1,79,286 male and 1,37,684 female registered voters.

In the 2012 Assembly elections, the Apna Dal won this constituency by a convincing margin of 17,583 votes. Anupriya Patel, Apna Dal's winning candidate, got 57,812 votes. BSP candidate Ramakant Singh, the nearest contender, got 40,229 votes. The voter turnout was 60.35 %. Anupriya was expelled from her party Apna Dal in 2015. She was elevated to the rank of Minister of State in the Health & Family Welfare Department by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July, 2016.

About Rohaniya Assembly (Vidha Sabha) Constituency – Bye Elections 2014

Rohaniya Assembly constituency of Uttar Pradesh will witness by-elections on September 13, 2014. The Vidhan Sabha seat has been left vacant since the sitting MLA of Rohaniya, Anupriya Patel from Apna Dal, won the 2014 Lok Sabha General elections from the Mirzapur constituency. Dr Bhawana Patel of Congress, Krishna Patel of Apna Dal (ally with BJP/NDA), Mahendra Singh Patel of SP, Deepchand of BMP, and 12 other candidates will contest in these 2014 by-polls. BSP and AAP are not contesting in these by-elections.

In the Assembly Elections which were held in 2012, Anupriya Patel of Apna Dal (AD) had emerged victorious after defeating BSP’s Ramakant Singh with 17583 votes. Apna Dal has had a dominance in the Rohaniya area for many past elections because of the high number of Kurmi voters.
