About Rajendra Prasad Singh
After sealing a seat-sharing pact with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Janata Dal (U), the Congress has released its first list of candidates for the five-phase state Assembly elections in Jharkhand beginning November 25. The name of senior Congress leader from Jharkhand Rajendra Prasad Singh figures as the party candidate from Bermo Assembly constituency. Rajendra Prasad Singh is the incumbent Finance Minister of Jharkhand. Singh’s affidavit file of 2009 shows that he had assets to the tune of Rs 2, 71, 39, 948. However, his declared assets were Rs 1, 33, 90, 452 in 2005.
Early Life of Rajendra Prasad Singh
Son of late Bhuwneshwar Prasad Singh, Rajendra Prasad Singh was born on July 10, 1945 in Dhori village of Bermo which falls in the Bokaro district. During 1958-59, R P Singh did his matriculation and went on to complete his pre-university from Gaya College during 1962-63.
R P Singh - Political Career
Singh won from the Bermo Assembly constituency in 2009 with a margin of 47,744 votes. He has not only been the finance minister of the state but has also held multiple portfolios including Parliamentary Affairs, Commercial Tax, Medical Education & Family Welfare, Health and Energy. He currently resides at 5, Ministers’ Bungalow, Near Aakashwani, Ranchi.
For the year 2014-15, R P Singh presented a Rs 50,387.70 crore budget in the Assembly in February 2014, where the fiscal deficit had been estimated to be 2.3 per cent of the gross state domestic product. He pointed out during his speech that Jharkhand would grow at a rate of 14 per cent during the 2014-15 fiscal.
Controversy surrounding Rajendra Prasad Singh
Rajendra Prasad Singh’s name was dragged in a controversy when a girl in Patna accused five people of gang-raping her in an MLA’s house in 2012. On the basis of that FIR, Police arrested Congress MLA Rajendra Prasad Singh’s nephew. However, the MLA denied the charges that the victim was recovered from his house.
