Brahmapuri is a city in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. The city is famous for its
educational
institutes. As of 2011 India census, the city had a population of 166,165. The assembly
constituency of
Brahmapuri is a part of Gadchiroli-Chimur parliamentary constituency.The seat has been
occupied by BJP
since 1999. Atul Devidas Deshkar of BJP won the 2009 assembly elections for the second
consecutive time
and is the present MLA. He defeated his nearest rival Gaddamwar Sandeep Wamanrao, an
independent
candidate. Deshkar baged 50340 votes as against Wamanrao's 44845 votes.
