About Wachi Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Wachi is a town located in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. The assembly constituency of Wachi falls under Anantnag parliamentary constituency. Mohammad Khalil Naik of CPI(M) won the 2002 assembly elections. He defeated Ghulam Hassan Bhat of PDP by a narrow margin of 80 votes. But in 2008 assembly elections Naik lost the seat to PDP. Mehbooba Mufti of PDP won the elections and is the present MLA. She defeated Showkat Hussain Ganie of JKNC with a huge margin. Mufti secured 12810 votes as against Ganie's mere 4474 votes.
