About Surankote Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

The assembly constituency of Surankote which is a part of Jammu parliamentary constituency is the Congress stronghold. Mohd. Aslam of INC won the 2008 assembly elections defeating Mushtaq Ahmed Shah Bukhari of JKNC. Aslam bagged 28102 votes as against Bukhari's 26051 votes. The constituency is not too large, it is a small tehsil in Poonch district of the state and as per 2011 India census, it had a population of 8,892.
