About Rajauri Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Rajauri is a town in the district by the same name of Jammu and Kashmir. There are many lakes surrounding the city, therefore it is also known as Vale of Lakes. To pay homage to the people who died during the liberation of the town from Pakistan in 1948, inhabitants of the city celebrate Rajauri Day on April 13. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 37,552. The assembly constituency of Rajauri falls under Jammu parliamentary constituency. Shabbir Ahmed Khan of INC won the 2008 assembly elections and is the present MLA. He defeated Tasadiq Hussain of PDP. Khan bagged 10013 votes as against Hussain's 9680 votes.
