About Kokernag Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Kokernag is a town in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. Kokernag is comprised of words, koker meaning chicken and nag meaning springs. As of 2001 India census, it had a population of 4858. The assembly constituency of Kokernag belongs to Anantnag parliamentary constituency. The INC occupied the seat since 2002. Peerzada Mohd. Syed of INC won the 2008 assembly elections for the second consecutive time. He defeated Gulam Nabi Bhat of JKNC. Syed secured 13384 votes as against Bhat's 12114 votes.
