About Kalakote Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Kalakote is a tehsil in Rajauri district of Jammu and Kashmir. The assembly constituency of Kalakote belongs to Jammu parliamentary constituency. The constituency is faced with many problems such as scarcity of water, shortage of electricity, lack of proper communication facilities and poor infrastructure. Rachhpal Singh of JKNC won the 2008 assembly elections for the second consecutive time. Though he did lot of developmental work for the constituency people are not satisfied. So they may opt for a change in the upcoming assembly elections. Singh won the 2008 assembly elections by defeating Ashok Kumar Sharma, an independent candidate. Singh bagged 25314 votes as against Sharma's 13894 votes.
