About Bijbehara Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Bijbehara is a town in Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir. It is also known as Bijbiara, Vejibyor and Vijeshwar. The place is also referred to as 'The Town of Chinars' as there are Chinar trees all over. As of 2001 India census, it had a population of 19,703. The assembly constituency of Bijbehara is a part of Anantnag parliamentary constituency. Abdul Rehman Bhat of PDP won the 2008 assembly elections for the second consecutive time. He defeated Bashir Ahmad Shah of JKNC. Bhat secured 23320 votes as against shah's 13046 votes.
