About Akhnoor Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Akhnoor, situated in the foothills of the Himalayas, is an archaeological site in Jammu district of Jammu & Kashmir. The town is situated on the banks of river Chenab. As of 2011 India census, it had a population of 11,225. The seat is the INC bastion. Sham Lal Sharma of INC who won the 2004 bypolls also won the 2008 assembly elections and is the present MLA. He defeated Govind Ram Sharma of BJP. Sham Lal Sharma received 31600 votes as against Govind Ram Sharma's 17716 votes.
