Palwal, a city in the district by the same name, is the centre for cotton trading. It is also the headquarters of Palwal district. The city derives its name from a demon, 'Palwasur' who ruled the city during the reign of Pandavas. The total electorate in Palwal is 197976. The assembly constituency of Palwal belongs to Faridabad parliamentary constituency. Karan Singh Dalal was the MLA from the constituency since 1991 though not from the single party. Subhash Choudhary of INLD defeated Dalal of INC in the 2009 assembly elections. Choudhary bagged 51712 votes as against Dalal's 45040.
