The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution is an apex body of government of India an is divided into two departments - Department of Consumer Affairs and Department of Food and Public Distribution. The Department of Consumer Affairs is responsible for the formulation of policies related to Consumer cooperatives, Consumer Movement in India, Monitoring Prices and controlling of statutory bodies like Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) and Weight and Measures. The Food and Public Distribution department assures food security through timely procurement and distribution of foodgrains. The Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution heads the ministry. Ram Vilas Paswan is the present Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution who has succeeded K.V. Thomas from INC.
