Often termed the “Leningrade of Bihar” owing to the hold of the Communists of India over this constituency, the Begusarai parliamentary constituency is one of the 40 Lok Sabha constituencies of Bihar. According to Election Commission of India 2009 data the total electorates in the Begusarai Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 24) were 1,473,263 of which 687,910 are females and 785,353 are males. Located in the Begusarai district of Bihar, the Begusarai city is the administrative headquarters of the district. The constituency is also a municipal corporation in the Begusarai district.

This parliamentary constituency is significant as it is the birthplace of an eminent Hindi poet , Rashtrakavi Ramdhari Singh. It is home to the Ganga River which surrounds it in the North. According to the 2011 Census, the population in the Begusarai district is 29,70,541..

This parliamentary constituency is well-known for its strong base of ancillary industries which give it its economic base, along with multiple small-scale industrial establishments which add revenue to the district. Crops such as oilseeds, masur, makka, gram, arahar and tobacco, besides others are grown in plenty in this constituency. However, the Begusarai has been announced as one of the most backward regions in Bihar, and receives regular funds from the Government of India under the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGFP).
